Bureau of Parks and Recreation

The Bureau of Parks and Recreation is responsible for the development, management, and maintenance of over 4000 acres of County park land and open space. We also maintain and manage large sections of the Delaware and Lehigh (D&L) Trail in Lehigh County. Our parks offer active and passive recreational opportunities for everyone.

We have some of the finest public sports fields in the area for sports like baseball, softball, soccer, cricket, tennis, inline skating, and disc golf. There are over 50 miles of trails for hiking and bicycling at all ability levels. Leaser Lake, along with the Jordan and Cedar Creeks, are popular fishing spots.

Our parks are great places to enjoy the natural landscape of the area, study the flora and fauna, or just spend quiet time with nature. There are individual tables for small picnics. A number of pavilions can be reserved for larger gatherings. Trexler Environmental Center is a working example of environmentally friendly construction and hosts a number of environmental education workshops and events.

We also maintain four historical sites that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These sites are great places to explore our agricultural and industrial heritage.

The Bureau works with a number of local partner groups, who provide expertise and support to use the parks as venues for large regional events that promote Lehigh County, support the parks and improve the quality of life in our County.

The Bureau also lends our expertise and resources to support and assist to other County departments as needed.

The mission of the Bureau is to provide the citizens of Lehigh County with a well-managed network of parks that offer extensive leisure opportunities within an affordable budget.
