School Report Cards

The State Department of Education releases its annual rating of school districts and schools.  Under the federal No Child Left Behind law, the state must rate schools based on the state math and reading scores, test participation rates, attendance rates and graduation rates.  This year the bar has been raised on meeting targets, 56 percent of the students must be proficient in math, up from 45 percent, and 63 percent in reading, up from 54 percent.  By 2014, all students must be proficient in reading and math.  Districts and schools that fail to meet targets must come up with a game plan to improve or face possible takeover.  Some schools that met old targets might have trouble meeting new ones.  This site will allow you to search by school and school district for information on your local school.
