Q: Where is the Trexler Nature Preserve (TNP) located?

A: Trexler Nature Preserve is located north of Allentown in Schnecksville, PA. Follow Route 309N to Mill Creek Rd. approximately 2 miles north of Schnecksville. Turn left and go 1.1 miles to the North Range entrance on the left, continue another 1.1 miles on Mill Creek Rd. to the intersection of Mill Creek Rd. and Game Preserve Rd. Go left .25 miles to the entrance to the Central Range, also the entrance to the Lehigh Valley Zoo. Go right at the intersection of Mill Creek Rd. and Game Preserve Rd. 0.4 mile to Ruheton Hill Rd. continue straight for 0.8 mile to Jordan Creek Rd. turn left and go 0.1 mile to the South Range parking lot on the right.

Q. Where is the Lehigh Valley Zoo located?
A. The Zoo is located in the Central Range of the TNP.

Q. Do I have to pay to go onto the TNP?
A. No, there is no admission fee to the TNP, but a fee is charged to enter the Lehigh Valley Zoo.

Q. What activities can I pursue at the Trexler Nature Preserve (TNP)?
A. Walking, hiking, mountain biking, nature watching, picnicking, and fishing and archery hunting.  Hunting and fishing are pursuant to policies established by the PA Game Commission, PA Fish and Boat Commission, and Lehigh County.  Hunting policies can be found here.  Camping in Trexler Nature Preserve is restricted to scouting groups only by permit.  Contact the Parks Department at 610-871-0281 for scout camping information.

Q. When is the TNP open to the public?

A. The Trexler Nature Preserve is open from dawn to dusk 365 days a year.

Q. Where are there restrooms?
A. There are restrooms in the Lehigh Valley Zoo and portable toilets at the ford of the Jordan Creek, both within the Central Range. There are also restrooms at the Trexler Environmental Center / Park Office 4935 Orchard Rd. in the Central Range.

Q. How do I get to the Trexler Environmental Center?
A. Go on Rt. 309 to Old Packhouse Rd. in Schnecksville. Go west for 0.8 mile to Orchard Rd. turn right and go 0.35 mile to the parking lot on the right.

Q. Are dogs allowed?
A. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash and under control of the owner. All dog owners must clean-up after their pets.

Q. Are there organized outings and education programs?
A. Yes, look on the Lehigh Valley Zoo website, www.lvzoo.org or the Wildlands Conservancy website, www.wildlandspa.org for dates and times of events.

Q. Are there access areas for people with disabilities?
A. The 1.2 mile Covered Bridge Loop Trail in the Central Range is ADA approved. You can access the Covered Bridge Trail from the ford area in the Central Range or from the parking area on Old Packhouse Rd. at the Geiger Covered Bridge.
